X-MEN -

The first X-Men issue. The beginning of some of the best series and characters in all of Marvel Comics history. It’s so awesome to see the introductions of characters I had grown up with my entire life. The dynamics between the characters aren’t so deep yet, but you can see the tension between being young, gifted, and looked at as dangerous by the whole world. Jack Kirby’s art does its job, it’s clean and efficient, and it sets a very strong foundation, even if it doesn’t push any crazy visual boundaries yet, but it’s easy to see the importance. There’s something in the idea that sticks with people (easy to say that now in the year 2025). It’s more of a blueprint than a breakthrough, but there’s extreme value in seeing how it all started.
