“Ultimate Comics: The Death of Spider-Man” delivers the perfect combination of heart and tragedy. This is more than a typical Spider-Man story, this is a heartfelt tribute to what makes the character Spider-Man truly heroic. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Mark Bagley, it stands as a personal favorite and one of the most emotional stories in the Ultimate universe.
This version of Peter Parker is still finding his way and trying to fit into his role as Spider-Man. His self-sacrifice is front and center as he battles overwhelming odds (as Spider-Man typically does) to protect his loved ones, even at the cost of his own life.
Bagley’s art brings the story’s pain and power to life and does an amazing job of showing the sadness and emptiness that follows the death of Spider-Man. His death isn’t just tragic; it’s meaningful. It also leads to the rise of Miles Morales, who honors Peter’s legacy.
