SPIDER-ISLAND -
Marvel’s been playing with alternate realities for decades, and the idea of everyone in Manhattan getting Spider-Man’s powers is interesting, to say the least. At first glance, it feels like a lot is going on, but once I got into the story, it really started to work for me. Instead of leaning too hard into the spectacle, it plays out like a proper Spidey story, full of personal stakes and moral dilemmas. Plus, it includes Shang-Chi, which is a personal win for me.
There are a few things I’m not a huge fan of, like the ending being a bit cliché and safe, but I appreciate that it still gave me the motivation to explore new ideas in my own work, especially ones that feel a little “different.”
