DETECTIVE COMICS #1090 -

Detective Comics #1090 is exactly the kind of Batman story I gravitate to time and time again. Tom Taylor drops us right into a real Batman mystery without overexplaining, pulling threads that connect Bruce’s no-kill rule back to Thomas Wayne’s belief in saving lives, even the ones that don’t deserve it. It’s a simple idea, but it adds a whole new emotional weight to Batman’s mission. And the best part? Batman actually feels like a detective again.

The final twist hits hard, and I LOVE IT. Thomas Wayne once saved Joe Chill, the man who would end up killing him and his wife, making Bruce an orphan. It’s brutal in the best way. This issue feels grounded, sharp, and full of the kind of character work that reminds you why Batman stories can still hit differently.
