INJUSTICE -
This book had every reason to be trashy fan service, but instead, it delivers one of the best “what if” stories DC has ever pulled off. Superman going authoritarian is not a new idea, but here it feels earned (seriously, it’s pretty messed up). The story takes its time, letting grief slowly unravel his values. What makes it work is the range of perspectives from Batman, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn, who are all trying to make sense of a world falling apart. The art is simple but effective, keeping the focus on emotion over spectacle. Injustice proves that alternate timelines hit hardest when the characters still feel real and there is substance to what is going on.
