DAREDEVIL: THE MAN WITHOUT FEAR -
This issue closes out the arc of one of the most masterfully written origin stories of all time and one of my favorite heroes. I take so much inspiration from how this story is told and the character building that accompanies it. Frank Miller keeps the dialogue minimal but effective, letting Romita Jr.’s art do what it was meant to do: capture the reader (me included). The fight scenes are raw without being over the top, and the emotional beats hit hard without needing to explain themselves, which I respect so much. We see Matt Murdock’s anger and sense of justice, and how much of that is built on grief. What stands out is how honest this feels to me; there’s no attempt to glorify the violence or make Daredevil feel larger than life. It’s about a kid from Hell’s Kitchen who’s had enough and decides to push back.
