UNDER THE RED HOOD -

To me, Jason Todd’s transformation from the second Robin to the Red Hood is one of the most tragic and compelling stories in Batman comic history. Once Batman’s rebellious sidekick, Jason Todd, met a horrible fate at the hands of the Joker in the series “A Death in the Family.” What made this event so unique was that fans were actually given the power to decide his fate through a phone poll, and by a narrow margin, they voted for his character’s death.

For years, Jason remained dead. Until “Under the Hood,” where he was resurrected via Ra’s al Ghul’s Lazarus Pit. But Jason didn’t return as the hero he once was. Instead, he took on the name of the Red Hood, which was a reference to the first Red Hood and its negative connection to Batman, using lethal force to clean up Gotham in ways Batman never would.

Jason’s return wasn’t just about crime-fighting; it was completely personal. He wasn’t just angry at the Joker for killing him; he was furious at Bruce for letting the Joker live and continue to create chaos in Gotham. This led to one of the most intense confrontations in Batman’s history, where Jason held the Joker at gunpoint and demanded that Bruce choose: kill the Joker or lose Jason again. Bruce refused, proving he will always live by his moral code, even at the cost of his relationship with Jason.

What makes Jason Todd such a fascinating character is that he challenges Batman’s philosophy in a way few others do. Unlike other members of the Bat-Family, Jason isn’t just questioning Bruce’s choices, he’s resurrected proof of their consequences.
